This is a work in progress for my upcoming show in Spokane. It is an overview of a segment of Latah Creek where I lived between 1982 and 1985, before moving to Seattle. Latah Creek was also called Hangman Creek, after General George Wright had Native Americans that thought they were attending a treaty signing summarily lynched.
The area itself is called Vinegar Flats, after a long since demolished pickle factory. The years that I spent in this somewhat secluded hamlet were productive and enjoyable. I managed to get a lot of work done in the small two-story house that I lived in. I was also both biking and jogging quite a bit, and remember jogging in winter along this small, snow-packed dirt road with my border collie Marilyn Monroe, while we were paced for several blocks by an American bald eagle that was looking for food.
There will be several Latah Creek paintings, along with other Spokane and Seattle area subjects in the exhibition.
